My Departure from "The Home of the Leprechauns"
Four months ago I didn't know if I would be able to stay in Ireland. I remember writing my first blog on my nervousness for change and feeling of unfixable homesickness. Today, I'm sitting in the same spot writing my last blog post broken hearted about leaving. Although a foreign place at first, I now feel safe, comfortable and happy here-- it's home.
It's hard to say goodbye to a city where I've explored, learned, grown and laughed. I still find it hard to believe that I have been living in another country for the semester. It has been a risk to embark on this journey; however, the reward was far beyond what I ever imagined. Stepping outside of my comfort zone has given me an awareness of my strength. I will never doubt my capabilities again. I have developed a confidence in the individual I am.
The first few weeks I prayed time would speed up and now I want every minute to drag on. The next few days I will visit my favorite places in Cork to soak up every memory I can. This city and the friendships I have made in it will remain unforgettable. I feel grateful that I've been able to experience life abroad. This isn't an opportunity every college student has, so I did my best to maximize my time here. I am proud of myself and the things I have accomplished here.
